Visit Eldrad

I'm not sure what made me think of this image from 2018 I never bothered posting anywhere, but I know the original was simultaneously an attempt at making one of those Solar System or exoplanet travel posters that were all the rage a few years ago as well as trying to recreate a vector look using Sketchbook Pro. I decided to remake it properly, using Affinity Designer as well as using SketchUp to create the spaceships. I ended up expanding on the design of the ship from what I'd originally intended and what you see here, so it's going to be making another appearance soon.

Hope you like homages to vintage sci-fi artwork.

Eldrad is the villain from an episode of Doctor Who called The Hand of Evil, a story arc I'm never truly sure if I like or not. It's a good story with lots of strong sci-fi concepts that still delivers a solid character-driven narrative, but it's also the start of this particular era of the show's gradual decline. It's at about the halfway mark of Tom Baker's tenure, slowly creeping towards the Key to Time saga and the early days of John Nathan-Turner taking over as executive producer and Douglas Adams briefly becoming script editor. To their collective and eternal credit, they saved the show from an early death, though your mileage on that sentiment will vary depending on what you thought of the past this point and before its final cancelation in 1989. Anyway, the name Eldrad burned itself into my brain as some kind of go-to exotic-yet-ominous sounding alien name.
