An old boss of mine wanted an Ed “Big Daddy” Roth styled illustration for his new business. As much as I liked how Roth drew the eyes on his characters, the whole telescoping sausage look, here it felt a little too on-the-nose, like it was a pale imitation rather than something that uses his Rat Fink aesthetic as a starting point before going for something different. In the end, I went with a sort of Simpsons-meets-Felix-the-Cat synergy, which I think is suitable to the more playful nature of the business venture.
